Abstract

PURPOSE:To easily form a Co-Cr alloy thin film which excels in the vertical magnetic anisotropy, by securing the negative voltage at the side of a substrate when a high-frequency sputtering process of the Co-Cr alloy is applied on the substrate. CONSTITUTION:A substrate 2 and a target 3 of Co-Cr are distributed in opposition to each other in a vacuum chamber 1 connected to an exhaustion system 7. Then the high-frequency voltage is applied from a high-frequency power source 5 to the area between the substrate 2 and the target 3 while the negative voltage of about -10--100V is applied to the substrate 2 from a DC power source 8. Thus a sputtering process is given to Co-Cr of the target 3 to form a Co-Cr alloy thin film excellent in the magnetic anisotropy. Thus a vertical magnetic recording medium is obtained.
