Abstract

PURPOSE: To enhance the feeling of power steering operation by allowing the displacement convertive characteristic of the mechanism to convert the rotary displacement into axial displacement, to change in accordance with the external oil-hydraulic signal given to the housing.
CONSTITUTION: Between the input shaft 20 and output shaft 30 is installed a conversion mechanism 60 to convert the relative rotary displacement of these two shafts into the axial displacement; this mechanism actuates a spool valve 40 which is to switch over the pressure supply system. This mechanism 60 is provided with a cylindrical holder 63 at the periphery of the coupling part of shafts 20 and 30 in such an arrangement as movable in the axial direction. A rotary element 64 is installed on the circumferential wall of this holder 63, and there are installed also a cylindrical piston 65 and a compression coil spring 66 which are movable in the axial direction of holder. The cylindrical piston 65 is so designed as to move upward according to the oil-hydraulic signal to turn the rotary element 64 and change thereby the inclination angle of a cam groove 64a provided in the rotary element. Thus the steering torque is changed.
