Abstract
PURPOSE:To measure length accurately without influence of a surface condition of a travelling body by measuring the length of the travelling body under a noncontact condition. CONSTITUTION:When a travelling body is transferred by rollers 4 from the left to the right and the front end reaches an optical detecting means 5 and shields light, a photo-sensitive element 5b turns on, and the resultant signal is supplied to a control and arithmetic circuit 8. Further, the rear of the body 3 exists in a visual field of an image sensor 1, and the distance l from a center line A to the rear end of the sensor 1 is detected by the sensor 1, and the resultant signal is supplied to the circuit 8. Accordingly, in the circuit 8, the distance L0 from the center line A of the sensor 1 to a center line B and the distance l are added, thereby a length signal (l+L0) can be obtained.
