PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of a defective picture due to the difference between picture elements, by picking up both signals of a standard output signal of an electronic camera and a picture signal from a storage medium storing and compensating the picture signal through the use of the standard output signal. CONSTITUTION:An electronic camera using a solid-state image sensor is used, a spatially uniform standard light is inputted, and the output is stored to the 1st part 211 of a magnetic tape 20 as a standard output signal. Next, picture information of an objective is inputted to the electronic camera and the information is stored to the next part 212 of the magnetic tape 20 as picture signal. The standard output signal is picked up from the tape 20 at a magnetic tape reproducing circuit 31 and stored in a memory 33 via a gate 32, and the average value is calculated at an average value circuit 34. The picture signal picked up at the reproducing circuit 31 is applied to a signal processing circuit 35 via the gate 32, the signal is divided by the standard output signal at each picture element and the reproducing signal is obtained by multiplying the average value calculated at the circuit 34 with the result of division.
