Abstract

PURPOSE: A composition, obtained by melt incorporating butyl rubber with a small amount of polyethylenic polymer in the presence of an organic peroxide, having improved melt fluidity and elastic property and cold flow resistance, etc.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture consisting of a butyle rubber, e.g. butyl rubber or polyisobutylene, and a smaller amount of polyethylenic polymer is melt mixed and reacted in the presence of 0.1W3% organic peroxide to give a polymeric composition having a melt viscosity lower than that of the unreacted mixture. Preferably, the polyethylenic polymer has a relatively low molecular weight and a high melt index.
USE: Sealing materials and plastic modifiers.
