Abstract
PURPOSE:To realize searching of a fault point at a remote place, by making an optical pulse incident within an optical fiber to be searched, exciting the Raman scattered light and separating the Rayleigh back scattered light from the incident pulse light by an optical branching filter. CONSTITUTION:The optical pulse having a 1.06mum wavelength which is radiated from an optical pulse light source 12 that is driven by a pulse signal generator 11 is fully reflected by an interference filter 19, condensed by a lens 21 and made incident to a fiber 14 to be searched to advance while exciting a Raman light. The excited Raman light travels in the fiber 14 and at the same time produces the Rayleigh back scattered light which goes back toward the incident terminal of the fiber 14. This back scattered light reaches the filter 19 via the lens 21 to pass through the filter 19, is condensed through a lens 22, converted into the electric signals by a photodetector 15 and analyzed by a signal analyzer 16.
