Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent any short circuit battery a cathode strap and an anodic plate by making the lateral expansion of an anodic grid larger than the vertical expansion of the anodic grid by constituting the anodic grid so that lateral small bones have an active-material holding function and work as current collecting paths and so that a vertical main bone on the lag side primarily has a current collecting function. CONSTITUTION:An electrode group 4 is installed in a battery jar 5, and is electrically connected to the outside of the jar 5 or to another electrode group 4 by means of an anode strap 6 or a cathode strap 7 which connects electrode plates. An anodic grid is used for an anoidc plate 1 as illustrated in the figure. The sectional area of a vertical main bone 10 of a grid 8 on the lag 9 side is larger than that of a vertical main bone 11 of the grid 8 on the opposite side of the lag 9. In addition, the sectional area of an upper main bone 12 is the same as that of laterla small bones 13 working as current collecting paths and having an active-material holding function, and the sectional area of vertical small bones 14 is smaller than that of the lateral small bnes 13. Owing to the above constitution, the vertical expansion of the anodic grid can be much more decreased. As a result, any short circuit between the anodic plate and the cathode strap is prevented by preventing any contact between them.
