Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve the reliability of electric connections by providing a metallic thin film or carbon thin film on the surfaces of external connection terminals made of plural transparent conductive thin films arranged in a plane near the end part of a substrate constituting a display element, and then bringing it into press contact with the connection terminals. CONSTITUTION:To the surfaces of external connection terminals 12 made of transparent conductive thin films of a plane type display element formed by sealing liquid crystal 11 between two glass substrates 6 and 7 having transparent electrodes 8 and 9 opposed to each other with a sealing part 10 between, a thin film of metal, such as Au, Pt, Cr, etc., having <= about 0.1mum thickness or thin film 15 of carbon is stuck. Then, this film, and the connection terminals 3a-3n of a thermal press-contacting type flexible cable formed by providing silver conductors 2a-2n, thermoplastic resin materials 4a-4n, and an insulating protective film 5 on a plastic substrate 1 are positioned oppositely; and a metallic fixture 14 for press contacting which has a stuck silicone rubber plate 13 is pressed and the terminals 3 and thermoplastic resin materials 4 are fused to bring them into thermal press contact with the terminals 12 and substrate 7.
