Abstract
PURPOSE:To make it possible to process the titled coupling sleeve by a single step by a method wherein an engaging section of the coupling sleeve with respect to an insert is processed by smashing from inside a predetermined part of a row of splines formed in the inner peripheral surface of the coupling sleeve. CONSTITUTION:A guide member 4 which has a row of splines 7 engaging a row of splines 6 formed in the inner periphery of a semiprocessed coupling sleeve 5 and which has a center hole 9 and three guide holes 10 intersecting the axis of the hole 9 at right angles is prepared. Further, wedge-like members 11 each having a press processing section 12 for smashing a predetermined part of the row of splines 6 of the coupling sleeve 5 and a tapered surface 13 are provided in the guide holes 10, respectively. With the above structure, in case where the engaging section of the coupling sleeve 5 is processed, a press shaft 14 is thrusted whereupon the press processing section 12 of each of the wedge-like members 11 is pushed outwardly by the cooperative action of a tapered surface 15 of the press shaft 14 and the tapered surface 13 of each of the wedge-like members 11 so that the predetermined part of the row of splines 6 is smashed accurately, thereby it is enabled to perform the predetermined processing by a single step, resulting in the shortening of the processing time.
