Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable the connecting rod to have a light weight and to be manufactured on a large scale by a method wherein a specific piston pin hole facing in a particular direction and split crank bearing divided into two halves in a particular diretion are provided at both open end respectively of a hollow arm. CONSTITUTION:The piston hole 5 is provided in a cylindrical section 3 which is provided at the lower part of the upper end of the hollow arm 1 so as to face forward and rearward and the split half 6a of the split crank bearing 6 which is provided at the lower end of the arm 1 so as to face forward and rearward and which can be split downwardly is formed integral with the arm 1 while the split half 6b of the bearing is connected to the split half 6a by means of bolts 7. Further, a steel pipe of a required length is put between bulge processing upper and lower dies 12 and 12' and compressed to thereby form a connecting body (not shown) and the connecting body is cut at it ends to make itself a separate arm part B of the connecting rod. At the same time, the two split halves 6a and 6b of the bearing are connected to each other so that a separate bearing part D is formed and finally, after both of the separate parts B and D are once connected to each other for the purpose of shaping the pin hole 5 to a true circle, the split half 6b is attached to, or removed from, the arm part B to thereby complete the connecting rod.
