971,449. Making fork-heads for connecting rods. W. GLOERFELD, and W. GLOERFELD Jun., [trading as E. & W. GLOERFELD K.G.]. June 10, 1963 [July 20, 1962], No. 22984/63. Heading B3A. A method of making a connecting rod forkhead from flat metal strip, e.g. steel, comprises forming a central socket 4 therein, successively drawing the socket to reduce its diameter and increase the depth thereof whilst maintaining a uniform wall thickness, punching the bottom therefrom to produce a seamless tubular part 5, and simultaneously with or subsequent to this operation punching pivot pin holes 7, 8 in the flat portions of the strip, trimming the strip and bending the flat sides thereof upwardly parallel to each other and parallel to the axis of the bore 6 of the part 5 so that the holes 7, 8 are coaxial. Prior to bending, the bore 6 may be tapped and the holes 7, 8 punched undersize and finally sized to produce axially extending bearing flanges 9, 10 about the holes.
