Abstract

PURPOSE:To greatly shorten the optimum visible distance of a display device and enable a clear picture to be formed even under strong solar light when said display device is used outdoors, by dividing into plural parts the luminescent surface of a cathode-ray tube acting as a light source which is to be a picture element of a huge display device, thus providing a polychromatic display form, and by forming a substrate glass of said luminescent surface with a specified material. CONSTITUTION:22r, 22g and 22b are electron guns which are placed inside a vacuum enclosure 21; 22r corresponds to red, 22g to green, and 22b to blue, respectively. 23r, 23g, and 23b are anode cylinders which constitute anode electrode parts of the former respective electron guns 22r, 22g, and 22b; and glass plates 24r, 24g, and 24b containing 3.0-15.0wt% of Nd2O3 are fitted to respective tip parts of said electron guns.
