Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a catalyst of improved catalytic activity and selectivity for vapor phase oxidation of hydrocarbon to carboxylic acid in a process for production of a composite oxide catalyst consisting of V, P, Ti as essentially active components by using an oxalic acid complex compd. of Ti for the raw material for the Ti component.
CONSTITUTION: V2O5 or the like is used as a raw material for a V component and P2O5 or the like as a raw material for a P component. An oxalic acid complex compd. of Ti such as titanium oxalate, titanium ammonium oxalate or the like is used as a raw material for a Ti component. All of said raw materials may not be the oxalic acid complex. compd. and said compd. may be a part of the raw material. TiO2 is usable for the raw materials for the Ti component other than these, but this does not dissolve in oxallc acid, and despite the addition of the oxalic acid for the purpose of reduction dissolution of, for example, V2O5 into the excess soln., it is not converted to the oxalic acid complex compd. On the other hand, the oxalic acid complex compd. of Ti forms a crystalline or amorphous composite oxide with V and P.
