Abstract

PURPOSE: To perform titled desulfurization by the use of easily avaiable absorbents by bringing a waste gas contg. SO2 into contact with the slurry of spent shale.
CONSTITUTION: The powder of spent shale (a) is mixed with water C and the filtrate supplied from a line 9 in a raw material preparation tank 1 and is thereby prepared into a slurry which is supplied to an absorption tower 2. In the tower 2, the slurry is circulated by a circulation pump 3, and is brought into contact with the waste gas introduced through a line 5, whereby the SO2 in the gas is absorbed away. The purified waste gas is discharged through a line 6, and the slurry absorbing the SO2 is subjected to solid-liquid sepn. in a sludge classifying device 7. The sulfite and sulfate of low solubility and the sulfate above the solubility are separated as sludge (b). Part of the filtrate is discharged through a line 8 to the outside of the system and remaining part is supplied through the line 9 into the tank 1, whereby it is recycled.
