Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent the production of a defective product by controlling welding conditions in accordance with the result obtained by operating the metal flow angle of a weld zone in accordance with the result of detection of the bead shapes which are obtained by a beam cutting method. CONSTITUTION:Slit light 4 of a single wavelength is irradiated to the beads 1 of a blank pipe 2 under moving prior to bead cutting, and a beam cut profile 7 is picked up with an ITV camera 9. From the picked-up image signal, the surface position of the beads 1 corresponding to the prescribed height within the range of 3/4-1/3 the max. height of the beads on the basis of the rise position of the beads is detected. The metal flow angle of the weld zones is operated in accordance with the horizontal distance from the above-described rise position in said surface position and the above-described height. In this way, the welding is controlled in accordance with said flow angle and the production of defective products is prevented.
