Abstract

PURPOSE:To recognize whether a nodular white abnormal oxide is produced in a channel box or not on the outside of a nuclear reactor during its operation by allowing a sample to stand in high temp. high pressure steam then observing the surface of the sample. CONSTITUTION:Distilled water is fed into an autoclave 1 alone, and with valves 3, 4 held closed, the temp. elevation of the autoclave 1 is started. On the other hand, a small test piece which consists of a zirconium alloy, and has been subjected to working heat treatment by a method similar to that for a channel box is hoisted by means of a wire in an autoclave 2, after which the temp. therein is raised while the inside of the autoclave is being evacuated with a vacuum pump 19. At the point of the time when the temp. in the autoclave 2 exceeds 200 deg.C, steam is supplied gradually from the autoclave 1 through the valves 3, 4, and the autoclave 2 is set at 500 deg.C, and 110kg/cm<2>. After this state is maintained for 5-25hr, the sample is observed, and its nodular corrosion sensitivity is decided. Thereby, the sensitivity test is carried out in a short time on the outside of the reactor.
