Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent deterioration of a characteristic, such as shift of an azimuth, a variation of a level, etc., by providing a covering member facing a tape sliding surface side, on an adjacent part of forward direction and reverse direction magnetic heads. CONSTITUTION:A covering member is formed by a mask block 22 consisting of a nonmagnetic substance and having a section like a channel shape. The mask block 22 is placed so that an installing reference surface 25 is in the same plane as the side of an adjacent magnetic head side of a magnetic head 11, holds down the upper surface of the magnetic head 11 by fixed parts 23, 23, and for instance, it is fixed by spot welding. The master block 22 is fixed to the other adjacent magnetic head 12, too, in the same way. As a result, the master block 22 is installed in the vicinity of the adjacent side of the forward direction and reverse direction magnetic heads 11, 12, and a tape pat 10 is pressed against a pat pressing surface 24 of the master block 22. In this way, a magnetic tape 5 is pressed down uniformly against a magnetic gap, and an exact azimuth can be held.
