Abstract

PURPOSE:To put an objective in focus automatically by branching and guiding light, passed through the objective, to an auxiliary image sensor. CONSTITUTION:Light passed through an objective 1 is branched by a half-mirror 2 and then guided to an auxiliary image sensor 6 through an auxiliary lens 5. The auxiliary lens 5 is driven forwardly and backwardly periodically by a motor 7 and the image sensor generates an image-forming signal which corresponds to a shift in focus position. The high frequency component of this signal is detected by a detector 12 and led to sample holding circuits 13 and 14. Signals which correspond to the far focus and close focus of the lens 5 are sampled and held synchronously with a driving signal for the lens 5 and a motor 17 is driven by the differential voltage of a differential amplifier 15 to move the objective 1 forth and back. When high frequency signal levels obtained by the image sensor 6 corresponding to the far focus and close focus become equal, the differential amplifier output goes down to zero and the focus position of the lens 1 is determined.
