Abstract

PURPOSE: To carry out tritium separation in good efficiency, by combining a column method having a multi-stage treating effect and capable of obtaining a high coefficient of separation between hydrogen isotopes and a method for decomposing tritiated hydrogen to hydrogen and tritium.
CONSTITUTION: Hydrogen gas 1 containing tritium is passed through an isotope separation column 2 to be separated into a gas containing tritium and one containing no tritium and H2 gas containing no tritium is discharged. On the other hand, a gas containing tritium is collected and recovered and the recovered gas component is introduced into a catalytic reaction column 7 to be decomposed therein. The decomposed gas is again passed through an isotope separation column 8 to remove the decomposed component generated in the column 7 and the collecting/recovering process is successively repeated.
