Abstract

PURPOSE:To improve descaling property and to descale only by mechanical means, by treating surface scale of a steel band by means of a wustite scale treatment. CONSTITUTION:A steel band coil is taken out from a soaking pit 1, and is mounted onto a wrapper 2 to improve the band flowability by a leveller 4 and to prevent wustite (FeO) scale formed on the surface of the band from the transformation to magnetite (Fe3O4) scale by means of a quenching device 5. The quenching device 5 consists of water cooling nozzles which are arranged so as to cool both the upper and lower surfaces of the band. Then the band is supplied to a mechanical descaling device 10 through a shearing device 6, a welding device 7, a tension bridle 8 and an accumulating device 9. The scale on the band surface is peeled off by the rolling action of a small roll rolling mill (a) and is removed by brushing rolls (c), and then its surface is cleaned by a water washing device (d). Next, the band is dried by a dryer (e) and wrapped into a prescribed size by a wrapper 14, and then is cut by a shearing machine 12 to be taken out from the wrapper 14 by coil car 15.
