Abstract

PURPOSE:To supply a magnetic ink with sufficient stability against consumption of large amounts of ink and obtain a constantly excellent and stable ejection characteristic, by providing an auxiliary ink groove in proximity to a magnetic needle electrode orthogonally to an ink groove. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic ink 13 in an ink tank 14 is supplied into an ink chamber 12 provided in a non-magnetic base 18 through a supplying pipe 5. When the ink chamber 12 is filled up with the ink 13, a capillary action causes the ink to flow upwards in an ink supply passage formed by an ink chamber cover 6 and a plurality of ink grooves 12 which are U-shaped in cross section, so that the ink grooves 2 and the auxiliary ink groove 4 are filled up with the ink 13, and the ink 13 forms a meniscus at the tip of the groove 2 due to the magnetic force of the magnetic needle electrode 3 magnetized by a magnetizing means 8 and the surface tension of the ink 13. Then, a bias voltage is impressed between a picture signal voltage impressing means 10 and a counter electrode 7, and a pulse voltage corresponding to the picture signal is impressed on the electrode 3, whereby the ink is ejected from the tip part of the groove 2 and flown to produce an image on the surface of a recording paper 9.
