Abstract
PURPOSE: To enable the drawing of optical fiber with low degree of breakage even at high speed, by making a coating compound in a coating bath flow in the direction of the progress of optical fiber by an endless belt so that the viscosity resistance of the coating compound is reduced.
CONSTITUTION: The wheels 10 and 11 to be driven by the shafts 13 and 14 are set at the top and bottom in the interior of the coating baths 15 and 15' capable of being divided into the right and left. The endless belt 9 is hung between the top and bottom wheels 10 and 11, and a large number of the blade plates 16 are attached to the surface of the belt 9. The optical fiber 3 is passed through the notch 22 equipped at the middle of the belt 9 to the plastic coating material 5 in the coating baths 15 and 15', and discharged from the nozzle 12. In the operation, the coating material 5 close to the optical fiber 3 is made to flow in the direction of the passage of the optical fiber 3 by the endless belt 9 and the blade plates 16, the relative speed between the optical fiber 3 and the coating material 5 is lessened, and the viscosity resistance of the optical fiber 3 is extremely reduced.
