Abstract
PURPOSE:To make the internal temp. distributions of produced slabs, etc. uniform, to eliminate the need for reheating and to improve productivity by providing a heat insulating part between the final rollers of a continuous casting installation and a cutter. CONSTITUTION:In a continuous casting installation, a heat insulating part 11 is provided between final rolls 7a, and a cutter 10, and cooling capacity is decreased by decreasing the number of sprays near the rolls 7a. Therefore, unsolidified parts remain partly in a slab when it passes through the rolls 7a. When such slab or the like enters the part 11, there is virtually no cooling from the outside and therefore the surface of the slab or the like is gradually heated by the heat conduction from the inside. The unsolidified parts at the center are gradually cooled by the heat conduction to the surface, and solidify by around the time when it goes out from the part 11. At the point of a cutter 10, no unsolidified parts exist. If necessary, an induction heater is provided to the part 11.
