Abstract

PURPOSE:To produce weakly deoxidized steel of superior surface quality, and workability such as the suitability to cold forging and hardenability by charging the molten steel of respectively specified contents of C, Si, Al and free oxygen together with a heat insulation type flux into a mold for casting, and drawing out the same continuously downward under electromagnetic induction agitation. CONSTITUTION:The molten steel of, by weight, <=0.25% C, <=0.02% Si (without addition), <=0.007% Al, and <=85ppm free oxygen which is preferably deoxidized and controlled to <=30ppm total amt. of N is prepd. This molten steel is charged together with a heat insulation type flux into a mold for casting of <=1.5 flatness ratio. In this mold, the molten steel is electromagnetically agitated under a constant magnetic force. As a result, the deoxidation is intensified and accelerated by the C, Mn and Al that the molten steel per se possesses, and further, rotating forces are given to the oxide and foam formed in the mold, whereby the flocculation to a solidified shell is suppressed. The molten steel in this state is drawn out continuously downward of the mold and is solidified, whereby the intended weakly deoxidized steel is produced.
