Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable simultaneous detection of ion and non-ferrous metals, by a method wherein, in a metal detector which detects a metal mixed in an object to be tested, an unbalanced signal is chopped by two chopper signals being different in a phase by 90 deg.. CONSTITUTION:An output signal (a) of a rectangular wave of an oscillator 1 is divided into a signal (b) having a desired frequency to supply it to a transmitting coil P of a voltage amplifier 4. An induced volage is generated at 2 receiving coils S1 and S2, and an unbalanced output is produced from a balance circuit 5 only when a metal exists in an object to be tested passing between the coil P and the coils S1, S2. The output of the circuit 5 is amplified (6) and sent to chopprs 7a and 7b and a balance display 8. Chopper signals (c) and (d), having the same frequency as that of an output signal to a voltge amplifier 3, is outputted from said frequency divider 2, the two signals (c) and (d) are 90 deg. different in a phase, and the duty ratios are both 1:1. The signal (c) is sent to the chopper 7a for detecting iron, and the signal (d), whose phase advances by 90 deg., is sent to the chopper 7b for detecting non-ferrous metal.
