Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide a chromatography layer which a high mechanical strength and excellent adhesiveness and water resistance, by using an adsorbing material in which a copolymer having a hydrophilic group and an adsorptive group is incorporated in a specified ratio as a binder with an adsorbent such as silica gel, diatomite, or polyamide. CONSTITUTION:1-10pts.wt. binder comprising a copolymer of acrylamide and an acrylate or methacrylate of the formula (where R<1> is H, CH3, and R<2> is CH3 or C2H5) and 99-90pts.wt. adsorbent selected from silica gel, diatomite, Al2O3, MgSiO4, calcium phosphate, cellulose, polyamide, and polycarbonate are agitated and mixed in water. An adsorbing material comprising mainly said mixture is coated on a glass plate and dried to obtain a thin-layer chromatography plate. The plate is excellent in water resistance, and has an affinity for water, a high strength, and an improved developability of a chromatogram.
