Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the running friction of a tape, by providing a rotary cylinder having a head, which faces to a fixed cylinder having a hollowed conical surface through a small space, and rotating this rotary head to generate an air current in this space. CONSTITUTION:A fixed cylinder 12 having a hollowed conical surface 20 is provided in a case 30, and a rotary cylinder 16 having a conical surface 18 which faces to the conical surface through a small space 22 is provided. Grooves 40 and 42 and grooves 44 and 46 are provided on conical surfaces 18 and 20 respectively, and coils are buried in grooves 40 and 44, and short rings are buried in grooves 42 and 46, and they are fixed with a resin. The rotary cylinder 16 has plural magnetic heads 32 and 34 and is rotated around a shaft 48 in the direction of an arrow A, and a tape 37 is guided by a guide 38 and is run in the direction of an arrow C. An air current going upward from below is generated in the space 22 in accordance with the rotation of the rotary cylinder 16 to form an air film having about mum thickness between the tape 37 and the outside circumferential face of the rotary cylinder 16. Thus, the running friction of the tape is reduced.
