Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the accuracy of detection, by making detection near the transition point of magnetism, in detecting a magnetic substance with ultrasonic waves. CONSTITUTION:A cast iron block 2 is magnetized with the primary coil of a detecting element 3A of a permeability meter 3 while the block 2 is heated in a heating furnace 1, the change in the magnetic flux when the magnetic field is inverted is detected with the secondary coil, and a permeability mu is displayed on the meter 3. The mu is gradually decreased with the increase in temperature and again gradually increases and then suddenly is reduced. Since this point is the transition point of magnetism (720-780 deg.C) of the block 2, when sudden decrease in the mu is recognized, ultrasonic wave pulses are given to the block 2 from the transmitter of a detecting element 4A of an ultrasonic crack finder 4, the reflected wave from flaws is detected at the receiver of the element 4A and displayed to the finder 4. Since the detection is made at high temperatures, the accuracy of detection can be increased.
