Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent desensitization and contrast reduction due to a mercapto complexing agent for silver by adding a water-dispersible finely-divided polymer to a photographic material for a diffusion transfer method. CONSTITUTION:To a silver halide emulsion layer or other constituent layer permeable to water through the emulsion layer are added at least 1 kind of mercapto complexing agent for silver salt represented by general formula (A) (where R is a divalent residue of optionally substituted aliphatic or aromatic hydrocarbon, Y is a water solubilizing group and X is a group capable of forming HS- by elimiation) and at least 1 kind of water-dispersible finely-divided polymer. When the emulsion layer is spectrally sensitized with an anionic or betaine type cyanine dye, a more remarkable effect is produced. The polymer is a latex composed of vinyl polymer particles, and an alkyl (meth)acrylate polymer is used preferably.
