Abstract

PURPOSE: To increase the activity and durability of catalyst, and to improve the selectivity in the fluorination of a halogenated hydrocarbon, by using a catalyst composed of specific ratios of chromium oxide, magnesium oxide and aluminum oxide.
CONSTITUTION: A halogenated hydrocarbon is fluorinated with hydrogen fluoride in the presence of a Cr2O3/MgO/Al2O3 catalyst containing 50W90%, preferably 60W80% Al2O3 (as the weight of oxide) and 5W30%, preferably 7W20% MgO (based on the weight of Cr2O3), usually at ≥150°C. The molar ratio of hydrogen fluoride to the halogenated hydrocarbon is 1/5W5/1. The ratios of Cr2O3/MgO/ Al2O3 or the catalyst are preferably (10W30%)/(1W10%)/(60W90%).
