Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain a water-soluble eye drop composition of indomethacin giving excellent feeling to the eye and having high stability, by adding L-arginine to indomethacin, thereby improving the solubility of indomethacin in water.
CONSTITUTION: The objective water-soluble eye drop composition contains indomethacin of formula and L-arginine at a molar ratio of 1:(0.8W1.4), especially 1:(1.05W1.2). The solution may be freeze-dried and used by dissolving in water. Indomethacin is useful as a non-steroidal antiphlogistic agent inhibiting the biosynthesis of prostaglandin. Its oily eye drop has been used hitherto as a mydriatic for operation; however, the above water-soluble eye drop gives remarkably improved feeling to the eye compared with the conventional oily eye drop, and the transferrability to the tear is also improved.
