Abstract

PURPOSE:To miniaturize a repeater by containing optical fibers which are connected in the state of cores into a tightly sealed pressure resistant case provided ajacently to a tightly sealed end face plate and spacially from a cable detaining fitting. CONSTITUTION:Space 14 adjacent to an end face plate 3 which tightly seals the end part of a pressure resistant casing 1 containing an optical submarine repeater unit 2 is completely seperated from a cable detaining fitting 9 by means of a pressure resistant cover 15. The cover 15 is screwed to the leading end of a joint ring 8 by way of a packing 16, and further the flange part 17 at the leading end of the fitting 9 is screwed to the screw part at the end part of the ring 8 by a tightening ring 18 while pressing the periphery of the cover 15, thereby maintaining a pressure resistant sealing function against external pressure. Optical fiber cores 11, 11' are beforehand pulled out long to the outside and are contained together with the joined part 21 having been correctly joined by means of jigs into the case 14.
