Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce a level of noise at high speed running of an automobile and save its energy, by rotatably supporting a fan on a driving shaft, coupling the driving shaft and the fan through an eddy current type joint with each other and allowing rotation of the fan to smoothly follow rotation of the engine. CONSTITUTION:A fan 3 is rotatably supported to the end part of a driving shaft 1 through a bearing 2. Then a grooved ring 4, made of ferromagnetic material, is coaxially fitted to the inside of a boss of the fan 3, and many permanent magnets 5, 5' are radially arranged to the inside of a groove with a distance apart in such a manner tha poles at a face-to-face position to each other are of different polarity further poles neighboring to each other are of reverse polarity. Further a conductive non-magnetic cup 6 is inserted into a gap of the permanent magents 5, 5' not to be contacted to their pole side, and its base part is fixed to the driving shaft 1 by a key 7. In this way, at operation, an eddy current is generated in said cup 6 of a portion interposed between N, S poles of a pair of the permanent magnets 5, 5' to cause damping torque, thus the desired end can be attained.
