Abstract

PURPOSE:To increase the number of symbols without enlarging the diameter of a type wheel, by providing a type member on a carriage so that it can be moved over a specified distance, and sequentially changing the type lines corresponding to a hammer until the type member contacts the carriage. CONSTITUTION:Type belts 3, 4 and 5 having a plurality of types at their outer surfaces are mounted on a type holder 8. The type holder 8 is mounted on a type wheel shaft 7 so that it can be slidden but not be rotated, and it is held by a carriage frame 9 so that it can be moved over the specified distance. The hammer 11 is implanted in a shaft 9a provided in the carriage frame 9 and energized by a spring in the direction of B. The carriage 2 and the type holder 8 are moved to the right end. A compressing spring 36 is compressed, and a tip 11b of the hammer 11 faces tye type belt 3. A string 35 is wound by a carrying mechanism, and the carriage is moved in the direction of an arrow A by 1 digit. Then the type belt 4 of the type holder 8 which does not move owing to the action of the conpressing spring faces the tip 11b of the hammer. Thus the type lines facing the hammer sequentially change.
