CONSTITUTION:A photodiode PD biased to zero is provided between the uninverted input terminal (+) and inverted input terminal (-) of an operational amplifier OP. Further, a diode D for generating a logarithmically compressed output voltage VOUT' for a photocurrent IP is provided forwardly between said inverted input terminal (-) and an output terminal. Said output voltage VOUT' is applied to the base of an npn transistor (TR) Q1, which generates a current signal at its collector by logarithmic expansion.
