Abstract
PURPOSE: To provide an amorphous fluorine-contg. compd. which is optimum as a raw material for fluxes suited particularly for continuous casting of steel by compounding silicic acid, inorg. fluoride and alkaline (earth) metallic compds. into blast furnace slag.
CONSTITUTION: Proper amts. of silicic acid, inorg. fluoride (e.g.; fluorite), alkalimetallic compds. (e.g.; soda ash) and alkaline earth metals (e.g.; limestone) are added to ≥25wt% blast furnace slag, and these are melted to uniform components. Here, the melting temp. of the product thereof is controlled to 1,100W 1,400°C and (Al2O3+Fl2O3) to ≤5wt%, whereby the intended raw material for amorphous fluorine-contg. fluxes is obtained. Since the blast furnace slag contains 13W20wt% (Al2O3+Fe2O3) usually, the amt. of (Al2O3+Fe2O3) is controlled to 5wt% by melting, for example, silica sand, lime, soda ash, fluorite, etc. beforehand and charging a required amt. of the blast furnace slag into said bath.
