Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled remedy, by copolymerizing styrene with divinylbenzene to give an approximately spherical copolymer having specific particle diameters, sulfonating it, subjecting it to ion exchange with a specific compound.
CONSTITUTION: Styrene and divinylbenzene are subjected to aqueous suspension polymerization in the presence of ≤5wt% based on total amount of monomers of vinylbenzenesulfonic acid or its salt, to give an approximately spherical copolymer having particle diameters of 10W100micron. In polymerization, the monomers blended with a catalyst (e.g., benzoyl peroxide, etc.) are dispersed into a medium dissolving a dispersant, heated at 60W80°C in a nitrogen flow, and reacted. The polymer is sulfonated in conc, sulfuric acid at 95W100°C, and subjected to ion exchange with a sodium compound or a calcium compound, to give a remedy for hypercalcemia.
EFFECT: Oral medication of the agent is carried out easily by a small amount of water and it is excreted quickly to the outside of the body.
