Abstract

PURPOSE: To obtain the titled polymer, having improved plasticizer absorptivity, and capable of giving a molded article with good mechanical properties, by polymerizing a vinyl monomer in the presence of a gelatinous dispersing agent, and reacting the resultant polymer with a proteolytic enzyme to remove the gelatinous dispersing agent efficiently.
CONSTITUTION: A polymerizing vessel is charged with pure water, an aqueous solution of a gelatinous dispersing agent, e.g. gelatin treated with an alkali, and phosphoric acid, and the internal temperature is increased. A vinyl monomer, e.g. vinyl chloride monomer, is then added thereto. A radical polymerization initiator, e.g. 2,2'-azo-bis(2,4-dimethylvaleronitrile), is dissolved in dichloroethylene, etc. and injected into the vessel to carry out the suspension polymerization. After the reaction is completed, the unreacted monomer is removed in vacuo, and an aqueous solution of sodium carbonate is added to adjust the pH to 6.9. A proteolytic enzme, e.g. nagarse, is added to decompose the gelatin. The reaction suspension is then dehydrated and dried to give the aimed polymer.
