Abstract

PURPOSE:To cool the engine of a vehicle effectively when the vehicle is stopped and to extend the life of the engine by a method wherein the idle operation of the engine is kept continued for a certain period of time after a start switch turns OFF and then the engine is stopped. CONSTITUTION:When a start switch 1 is turned ON in a condition A, an auxiliary switch 2 is turned ON through a link mechanism 1' and a power source switch 3 is also turned ON through a connecting mechanism 4 to thereby start the engine. Next, when the engine is stopped after the traveling of the vehicle and when the start switch 1 is opened, a thermosensor 6 is kept in an open condition because the temperature of the engine is high and accordingly, both of the switches 2 and 3 are kept turning ON to make the engine continue to operate in an idle condition. Then, when the temperature of the engine falls down to a predetermined value and the thermosensor 6 is closed, an electromagnet 7 is energized to excite the switches 2 and 3 so that the switches 2 and 3 are opened through an operation mechanism 4' and the connecting mechanism 4 to thereby stop the engine.
