Abstract
PURPOSE:To increase the characteristics of optical transmission for the titled fiber, by using the resin obtained by substituting the hydrogen with the fluorine atom for the core and accordingly decreasing the absorption of vibration of the carbon-hydrogen bond and then the Rayleigh scattering. CONSTITUTION:The following component is used for the core of an opticl fiber: a component in which at least 25% hydrogen atom is substituted with the fluorine atom for the carbon-hydrogen bond contained per monomer unit such as fluoroalkylmethacrylate in which a part or the whole of the side chain alkyl group of alkylmethacrylate is fluorinated, a copolymer of the fluorinated synthetic macromolecule in which at least 25% hydrogen atom is substituted with the fluorine atom, or a copolymer of the fluorinated and unfluorinated macromolecules. For the sheath component, a high molecular polymer having a >=0.5% refractive index (preferably about 2%) compared with the core such as polytetrafluoroethylene is used.
