Abstract

PURPOSE:To prevent back tension exerted to a thread member from gradually increasing and as well to reduce the production cost by decreasing gas pressure applied to a gas brake in dependence upon decrease in the winding diameter of a bobbin in a feeder. CONSTITUTION:A bobbin 3 in a wire-shaped member feeder is provided with a gas brake 6 for braking, a discharge prenure controlling solenoid valve 14 for controlling compression gas transfer from a main air reservoir 7 to a discharge air reservoir 12 and for controlling compression gas discharge from the discharge air reservoir 12, a valve controller 15 which issues signals for controlling the valve 14 in accordance with decrease in the winding diameter of the bobbin 3, etc., and is adapted to decrease brake pressure exerted to a gas brake 6 in dependence upon decrease in the winding diameter of the bobbin 3. Further, a preset counter 17 delivers a control signal to the valve 14 each time when the decrease in the winding diameter of the bobbin 3 amounts to a prectermined value. Thereupon, compressed air in the discharge air reservoir 7 is released to the atmosphere, then, the valve 14 is deenengized after the completion of air release, and compressed air in the main air reservoir 14 flows into the discharge air reservoir 12, thereby pressure exerted to the brake 6 is decreased by an amount corresponding to the discharged pressure from the air reservoir 12.
