Abstract

PURPOSE:To enable a great number of sheets to be accumulated with the use of a small sorter, by discharging sheets accumulated by carrier means from the top of a sheet holding member and by repeatedly accumulating sheets on the sheet holding member. CONSTITUTION:Sheets are led to a nip portion between a pair of carrier rollers 71, 72 by being guided by an entrance guide above the pair of rollers 71, 72 and are collected on a sheet accumulating bin. Further, when a sheet deflecting guide 8 is released from a carrier path, sheets are led to a lower stage sheet accumulating bin by being guided by carrier guides 181, 182. When the accumulation of sheets is completed at each sheet accumulating bin, the accumulated sheets are successively discharged and carried onto an arm 28 of a collator 25. At this time, the discharge side positions of the sheet accumulating bins are alternately projected and, therefore, are not uniform so that sheets to be accumulated on the arm 28 are accumulated such that their positions are alternately shifted.
