Abstract

PURPOSE:To presume the value of BOD, etc. continuously, by using a refractometer having a close correlation with the containing concentration of substance and finding the value of BOD, etc. from the value of an refractive index and that of absorbance. CONSTITUTION:A drainage 8 of a sample is put in a stirrer 14 through a drain tank 9, a cyclone 11 and a storage tank 13 and is used as a sample 15. The sample 15 is sent into a pH measuring instrument 20, an absorbance measuring instrument 21 and a refractive index measuring instrument 22 by the instruction of a computer 16 in the primary part 17. Each measured value of pH, absorbance and refractive index is stored in the secondary part 26. The value of the refractive index of a constant absorbance is computed from this measured value by the computer 16 and each concentration of BOD, COD and SS is computed and is presumed from each value of pH, absorbance and refractive index by using the absorbance classified by said value of the refractive index and a regression straight line expression of BOD.
