Abstract

PURPOSE:To aim at reducing maximum explosive pressure, the discharge amount of nitrogen oxide and as well noise by causing a 6-cycle compression ignition type internal combustion engine to carry out compression and explosion in plural times between the intake-to-exhaust cycles and the next intak-to-exhaust cycles so that fuel is fed in plural instalments. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection pump 2 is provided to each cylinder of a compression ignition type internal combustion engine performing 6 cycls of suction, compression, explosion, compression, explosion and exhaust in the mentioned order. A cam 6 forcing the plunger of the fuel injection pump 2 to reciprocate, is fitted onto a pump cam shaft which rotates at a speed as high as one-third of the speed of the crank shaft of the engine and which is formed with raised parts 8, 10 having a phase difference of 120 deg. therebetween. Further, intake and exhaust cam shafts also rotate at a speed as high as one-third of the crank shaft speed. Accordingly, the intakes valves open in suction cycle and the exhaust valve open only the next lift of the pistons, after compression and explosion are occurred twice. With this arrangement, the amount of fuel which is to be consumed in one cycle, is fed in two instalments, thereby effective work load (a) having the maximum explosive pressure limited to P0 may be made large, sufficiently.
