Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent the deterioration of a liquid crystal and to increase the lifetime of a liquid crystal display devive, by putting the liquid crystal of the same type as a liquid crystal display element into a case set near said display element for measurement of the temperature, putting a temperature-sensitive element into the liquid crystal and converting the measured temperature into the electric signal to apply the voltage to the liquid crystal of the display element. CONSTITUTION:For instance, a temperature-sensitive element 14 is dipped into the liquid crystal 9a which is the same kind as the liquid crystal 9 in a glass case 12 and at the position close to a liquid crystal display element 1 which is formed by enclosing the crystal 9 between a glass case 7 containing a display electrode 8 on the bottom surface and an upper cover containing a counter electrode 11. A liquid crystal temperature measuring device 2 extracts the signal of measured temperature via a lead wire 15. The measured temperature of the device 2 is varied by a temperature-electric signal converter 3 so that the resistance value of a variable resistor 4 has the prescribed characteristics. The applied voltage of the element 1 is controlled in response to the temperature of the crystal 9. Thus it is not required to always apply the high voltage that is equal to the voltage applied during the minimum temperature at which the liquid crystal can be driven over the entire region. As a result, the lifetime is increased for a liquid crystal display device.
