Abstract

PURPOSE: To provide the titled material which has extremely excellent wear aharacteristics, excellent wear resistance and no fear of environmental pollution and is useful for brake pad, etc., by mixing an inorg. short fiber composed of specified components and microballoon as a filler with a phenolic resin.
CONSTITUTION: A phenolic molding is obtd. by mixing an inorg. short fiber composed of SiO2, MgO and Al2O3 as main components and microballoon such as phyllite as a filler with a phenolic resin. There is no fear of environmental pollution caused by asbestos which conventional materials contain. When only the inorg. fiber is used, it is difficult to obtain good wear characteristics during wetting as in the case where asbestos is used. But, by using microballoon as an inorg. filler in combination, the wear characteristics are improved, and a molding material suitable as a material for brake such as brake pad can be obtd.
