Abstract
PURPOSE: To obtain the titled composition having the ability to form a film having good resistance to water and yellowing, etc. and improved stability, by the emulsion polymerization of a system consisting of a radically polymerizable monomer and a polar resin having specific bonding groups in the presence of a specified water-soluble resin.
CONSTITUTION: A system consisting of (B) one or more radically polymerizable monomers and (C) a polar resin having one or more bonds selected from urethane bonds, urea bonds and amide bonds is subjected to the emulsion polymerization in the presence of (A) a water-soluble resin consisting of a copolymer of (a) a monomer having one unsaturated group expressed by the formula (R is H or methyl; R' is formula II, etc.) and one or more graft copolymerizable unsaturated groups in one molecule, e.g. allyl methacrylate, with (b) a monoesterified substance of an α,β- ethylenically unsaturated acid and/or a polyalkylene glycol and (meth)acrylic acid and (c) another monomer to give the aimed composition.
