Abstract
PURPOSE:To prevent overcharging of a main capacitor for a flash discharge tube, by a method wherein the capacitor is released from a voltage multiplying rectifier in response to charging voltage of the capacitor beyond a prescribed value. CONSTITUTION:AC power source 11 is turned on and phase control of a triac 12 is carried out, and output of the triac 12 passes through a voltage multiplying rectifier 14 and charges a capacitor 21 for a flash discharge lamp. If a triac control circuit 25 gets out of order on account of any reason and the triac 12 is set to the full conductive state, the charging voltage of the capacitor 21 becomes large. If the charging voltage attains a prescribed value, a Zener diode 20 is made conductive and a relay 19 is operated to inhibit charging of capacitors 18a, 18b hence the capacitor 21, thereby overcharging is prevented.
