Abstract

PURPOSE: To start even the small load of starting resistance without fail in the the automatic voltage regulator for the self-exciting generator, by providing a thyristor for field current regulation and an auxiliary thyristor for charging and discharging a smoothing capacitor.
CONSTITUTION: The thyristor SCR1 is provided as a switching element which turns on and off the main circuit of a field winding FC. The terminal voltage of a main winding MC, to which the load L is connected, is applied to the smoothing capacitor circuit via diodes D1 and D2. The thyristor SCR2 is provided in the forward direction of the discharge of the capacitor, in the smoothing capacitor circuit. When the load L is normally operated, the voltage regulating circuit VRC' always keeps the SCR2 at the off state, and sends the gate opening command to the SCR1 at the positive half cycle of the output voltage of the main winding MC and turns on the SCR1. At the time of the overload, the SCR1 is always turned on, and the SCR2 is turned off at the positive half cycle of the output voltage.
