Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the size of a printer by making an image electric signal into a visible image by a liquid-crystal optical shutter. CONSTITUTION:Numbers of liquid-crystal cells each consisting of polarizing plates 27 and 28, electrodes 22 and 23, transparent substrates 20 and 21, a spacer 24, liquid crystal 25, and a metallic vapor-deposited film 29 are arrayed in a line in such a way that 10 cells are provided at every 1mm. interval to constitute an optical shutter 16, which is driven by an image signal from a facsimile computer to allow light from a lamp 17 to pass through it selectively, thus exposing an amorphous silicon photosensitive drum 1 charged negatively a charger 3. A latent image formed on the drum 1 is inverted and developed with negatively charged toner in a developing device 6. Thus, the positive toner image obtained from the negative image signal is transferred to transfer paper P to obtain a copy.
